Overview

EFDO (Electronic Residency Application Service Fellowship Document Office)

The EFDO was established by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) to serve as the "Designated Dean's Office" for all U.S. and international medical school students and graduates who use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to apply for residency positions in U.S. graduate medical education programs.

Main Functions

  • The EFDO processes the documents required for the ERAS application, such as:

    • medical school transcripts
    • letters of recommendation
    • photo
    • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • The EFDO ensures that all documents are uploaded to ERAS in the appropriate format and are made available to residency programs to which the applicant has applied.

  • It’s important to note that the EFDO only handles documents.
It does not play a role in:

    • the actual application process
    • selection of candidates
    • the matching process
